ART STANDARDS
Colorado Model Content Standards for the Visual Arts
Standard I: Students recognize and use the visual arts as a form of communication.
Standard II: Students know and use the elements of art, principles of design, and sensory and expressive features of visual arts.
Standard III: Students know and apply various visual arts materials, tools, techniques and processes.
Standard IV: Students relate the arts to various historical and cultural traditions.
Standard V: Students analyze and evaluate the characteristics, merits and meaning of works of art.
Philosophy: Visual arts education benefits students because it cultivates the whole person, gradually building many kinds of literacy while developing intuition, reasoning, imagination and alternative means of communicating. The visual arts also have a unique ability to link each new generation to those who have gone before. The visual arts enable students to make these connections and to express the otherwise inexpressible.
