Our Principal

Welcome to Centennial Elementary School!  I am thrilled, honored, and excited to be the principal at Centennial.  This will be my 22nd year in education, and I love what I do!  During my years of experience I have taught third, fifth, and sixth grades where gifted and talented students, English Language Learners, and special education students were fully included into my classroom.  I enjoyed being an Assistant Principal for four years in Douglas County at a K-6 year round school and one year as an Assistant Principal in Adams 12 at Centennial Elementary and Cherry Drive Elementary School. I have been honored to be the principal at Centennial for 9 years. Centennial is a school filled with dedicated and committed staff members that make sure each and every student is successful.  We are determined to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of all the students we serve and to work with parents and guardians of our students to ensure this happens.

We are projected at 419 students this year.  There will be three sections of kindergarten, first, second, fourth, and fifth grade.   There is only 2 rounds of thrid grade. We have two full day kindergarten and one 1/2 day pm Kindergarten. Students are also fortunate to have classes in physical education, art and music for 55 minutes a day.  Technology is integrated into the regular classroom setting with 30 iPads on a cart, 210 chromebooks on 7 carts, 5-8 iPads per classroom and a computer lab with 31 desktops where teachers integrate technology into student learning.  Our teacher librarian/digital literacy co-teacher also plans collaboratively with teachers in order to implement technology standards.  This summer we were very fortunate to install interactive boards in every classroom to enhance student learning opportunities.

Students are invited to enter the building at 7:30 a.m., and the late bell is at 7:35 a.m.  Please do not drop students off prior to 7:30 a.m., as we do not have supervision prior to that time.  Students enter their classroom promptly at 7:30am.  If they arrive between 7:30 and 7:35 they may enter the building throught the double doors at the end of their hallway.   Please pick up your student promptly after school at 2:55pm.  We do have a Before and After School (BASE) program running from 6:30 a.m. until the start of school and after school until 6:00 p.m.  If interested, please contact Erin Turzanski at  720-972-5296.  Please see our website for specifics on 1/2 day afternoon kindergarten times.

A map in our Parent/Student Handbook indicates where parents and daycare providers can drop off/pick up students and where parents and visitors can park when coming to visit Centennial.  Please be sure to drop off and pick up in designated areas only. The lane on W 132nd Court is a “Hug and Go” zone only.  Vehicles may not be left unattended in this lane.  Also the areas with bright yellow painted on the curb are to not be blocked, parked, or stopped at for any reason.  Your cooperation and support is greatly appreciated in facilitating a safe place for students and a much smoother traffic flow.

If you have new phone or emergency numbers since last registering, please login to Infinite Campus and update your information.  It is very important that the office have up to date emergency phone numbers on hand at all times.

Colorado State Law governs the administering of medication at school.  The steps to be taken are in the Parent/Student Handbook on p.18.  Donna Crandall is our Health Aide, and she can help you with the process.

The staff at Centennial is looking forward to a successful 2018-2019 school year.  We are excited to work and learn with all of you!

Sincerely,

Christine Parkes
