Frequently Asked Questions

A recess break is provided for all children at their lunch period. Additional recess breaks are provided also. Precipitation, wind speed and low temperatures can cause recess breaks to be held inside. Centennial’s policy is whenever any combination of these factors takes the chill temperature below 20 degrees, the recess breaks will be inside.

Because of the temperate Colorado climate, children are generally sent outside for recess. Children should dress appropriately for the season and should wear warm clothing and boots during cold and wet weather.

To ensure the safety of all students attending Centennial Elementary, all visitors must sign-in and present a driver’s license/I.D.. Your license will be scanned through our Raptor system and a visitor's badge will be provided. If you are coming to volunteer in your child's classroom or another area in the school, and you have younger children, please find alternate supervision for them. Visitors are always welcome for lunch after signing in at the front office.

Breakfast: Breakfast is still being served at Centennial and will be free for all students for the 2022-2023 school year. If a student wishes to eat breakfast at school, we ask that they arrive at 7:45am. Breakfast ends at 8:00 a.m..

Your child will be seen in the health office if ill or injured at school. The health aide or office staff will assess your child. They will call you if they think your child needs to go home for illness or injury. The school does not have a way to keep ill children for long periods of time, so please pick up ill children as soon as quickly and efficiently as possible (please remember to bring your ID). To ensure we can get a hold of you in emergency situations, please keep the school informed of any changes in telephone numbers.

Please call our attendance line at 720-972-5298. Absences must be reported on Centennial's attendance line, even if the teacher has been notified of the absence. This number may be called at any time to report an absence or tardy. Please leave a message with the following information:

• Name of person calling

• Relationship to student

• Student's name

• Date(s) of absence

• Reason for absence

• Teacher's name

Families who think they qualify for free and reduced lunch should complete an online application for each school year. If you don't have access to the online system, contact nutritionmealbenefit@adams12.org or (720) 972-4195 for a paper application. The applications are reviewed by Nutrition Services, and you will be contacted with your eligibility.

Families must reapply for free and reduced benefits each new school year.  All students that were approved for free and reduced benefits for 2021-2022 will receive the same free and reduced benefits for the first 30 meal serve days of the new school year or until a new eligibility determination is made.

Peanut Cautious

Beginning in the 2014-2015 school year, elementary and middle schools (K-8), in Adams 12 School District will be “peanut cautious”.  “Peanut cautious” means that there will be no peanut-containing menu items served in those schools.  It does not mean that we are “peanut-free”.  Adams 12 Nutrition Services does not guarantee that all of our menu items for K-8 were produced in a facility that is 100% peanut and tree nut free, some items may be processed in a plant that processes peanuts or tree nuts.

Adams 12 Student and Family Outreach Program is a support program created to match available community resources with students and families in need. The resources include, but are not limited to, Health Insurance, Homeless Assistance, Migrant Education, Title VII Indian Education and more. Please visit the district website for more information about the Adams 12 Student and Family Outreach Program. If your family or a family you are referring  needs help applying for one of the provided resources, please complete the Outreach Services Referral Form and an Adams 12 Community Resource specialist will contact you as soon as possible.

Information on emergency school closures or a one-hour delayed start due to severe overnight storms or other emergency situations is available on local television stations. Please listen for announcements concerning Adams 12 Five Star Schools. Information on delayed starts or closures may also be obtained by calling the District information number at 720-972-4000, then press 7 for school closure information or check the District website: www.adams12.org. Please note that school is rarely delayed or canceled.
